A Sample Story
I wanted to leave an example story to give you an idea of what we are hoping others will post.
We were hiking at 10,000 feet in the Haleakala Crater on the island of Maui, Hawaii. After the first night of camping, we happened to bump into a couple that camped near us and we started chatting. After a short time we went on our way. They hiked out of the crater and we continued farther into it, thinking we would never see each other again.
One week later, walking along the side of the road, we were hoping to get a ride into town (a walk that would be over an hour with packs). Cars kept passing us and our hopes of getting picked up were starting to waiver. A large truck started to pass us, just as many other vehicles had done. Suddenly it swerved over and stopped along the side of the road, just ahead. We hurried over to the truck to throw our bags in, happy that we were getting a ride. As we were getting in, we heard someone say “How was the crater?”. Suprised and slightly confused, we went to the side of the truck to see who this person was that somehow knew what we were doing a week prior.
A smiling face soon poked out of the window. To our suprise, it was the guy from the crater we were talking to and had never expected to see again! He was on his way back into town after work and saw us, so he pulled over. After the ride we thanked him for saving us a very long walk and exchanged contact information to keep in touch.
Has anyone else been helped in a similar, happenstance fashion?
